After four months, Jellyfish Entertainment's rookie boy-group, EVNNE, has made their very first comeback with their second mini album titled, “Un: SEEN.” The group was created from MNET's survival show, “Boys Planet,” and consists of members Keita, Park Hanbin, Lee Jeonghyeon, Yoo Seungeon, Ji Yunseo, Mun Junghyun, and maknae Park Jihoo. The seven member ensemble made their official debut on September 19, 2023 with mini album "Target: ME" -- featuring fan favorite title track, "TROUBLE."
Similar to their debut album “Un: SEEN” includes similar beats and composition style -- which only solidifies the rookie's authentic sound. This album starts off strong with title track, “Ugly.” In this track we hear electronic sounds accompanied with strong rap and vocals that help set the vibe for the rest of the album. Similar to EVNNE's first title track, "Ugly" resonates with listeners with lyric like, "even if I'm not perfect, I love," to encourage them to let look while radiating confidence and one’s self expression.
We are greeted by the next track, “Syrup,” with a harsher beat than the first and strong rapping from the group's leader -- Keita -- before the song transitions into a fun chorus. EVNNE has once again been able to showcase their songwriting capabilities and talents as Keita, Ji Yunseo, and Lee Jeonhyeon contributed to the the lyrics for this track. This song serves as a metaphor for desire -- which can be heard the lyrics, “Bad, bad, bad taste. Addicted you chase,” which helps to convey the underlying the message of being addicted to something “sweet” (such as syrup) and not being able to get away.
The third track, “K.O. (Keep On)," tells a happy and positive story along with it's fun and funky beats. Although this anthem-like song seems to have been created to be too short, the members ensure that they convey a very concise message to teir listeners -- Keep striving towards your goals, and never give up. This song serves as a light to many of its listeners while providing encouragement to keep moving forward.
EVNNE takes a moment to slow things down with their next trakc, "Chase," as they transition into a slower R&B vibe. As you listen to this track, you can hear the vocal excellence of the rook group along with another transition to a more traditional hip hop sound as the song progresses. Once again, we get to see the creativity, capabilities and talents of the members as Yoo Seungeon and Keita take part in lyric writing. The song talks about fantasies and how the members are falling deeper into a trap set by someone they are interested in.
“Festa,” the final song of EVNNE second mini-album, presents listeners with an upbeat and happy sound that reminds you of as if celebrating a happy ending, or celebrating an achievement of reaching your goal. This time, leader Keita was credited with lyric writing as well as composition. As you listen to this song, you are taken through the joyous and fun-filled emotions of a relationship. Lyrics such as, “Sing all day, play this song,” helps to create the positivity and happiness of a relationship as if they are at a festival every day.
Although EVNNE are still rookies, they continue to prove how hard working they are and how ready they are to make noise with their catchy lyrics, strong rap, skillful vocals, and fun beats.
