YB and Xdinary Heroes Unite for a Powerful Anthem of "Rebellion"

Writer: K FuseK Fuse

This past summer, Yoon Dohyun of the South Korean rock band YB was featured on a pre-release single from Xdinary Heroes, lending his amazing screaming vocals to their track titled "iNSTEAD!”. Now they are back with Dohyun’s entire band to be featured on a heavy metal track that encourages people to break the chains that hold them back.

YB, a prominent name in the South Korean music landscape, has been a formidable force since its inception in 1996. Over the years, the band has established itself as one of the leading heavy metal acts in the country, consistently pushing the boundaries of the genre while remaining deeply rooted in the vibrant rock scene of South Korea. The band's music is a rich tapestry woven from various influences, prominently featuring the powerful riffs and melodic structures characteristic of classic rock. YB incorporates elements of modern rock, which not only enhances their sound but also makes it resonate with a contemporary audience. This fusion of styles is further enriched by a unique Korean cultural identity that flows through their lyrics and musical themes, allowing them to connect with fans on a deeper level. YB is widely celebrated for their explosive and dynamic live performances. Each concert is a testament to their energy and passion, as they engage audiences with an electrifying stage presence that captivates both long-time fans and newcomers alike. The band's ability to create an immersive experience is complemented by their resonant directness in vocal style, which is characterized by powerful delivery and emotional depth. Their songwriting is marked by a distinctive approach that often reflects personal experiences and societal issues, resonating with listeners through its authenticity and relatability.

Rebellion” doesn’t have any hidden meanings within the lyrics, it’s about rebelling against the status quo to find the freedom that people need to live their lives as they want. There is an epic intro with heavy guitars and double kick drums that lasts nearly a minute, then Dohyun enters with his harsh vocals, followed by a chorus of voices from the members of Xdinary Heroes. They lament how they don’t want to hear the soulless music anymore and how they can’t stay silent anymore. They encourage others who might be sick of the way things are to not run away, but instead to shine brighter and rise to rebel against their oppressors to change things.

The music video has the band set in a dark room with minimal light, switching to a classroom setting with students at their desks. As the intro plays through, the band themselves are rocking out to the instrumental, playing and head banging at the same time. The members of Xdinary Heroes, Gunil, Jungsu, O.de, Gaon, Junhan, and Jooyeon, all can be seen at desks with the other students, robotically mouthing their parts in the track. When the chorus hits, it slows the rhythm of the song slightly to enhance the power of the call to arms so to speak. Then there is another intense instrumental that builds the tension and angst before entering a broken-down bridge where Dohyun speaks about breaking chains that held them back and entering a freedom that can be found in rebellion. The slower chorus is repeated before ending with another hyped instrumental that causes the entire class to start headbanging in unison.

True to the heavy metal/rock form with harsh vocals and instrumentals helping to drive their point home, YB and Xdinary Heroes successfully brought their unique talents together in a track that will get even the most docile person tapping their toes at the least to their rhythmic instrumentals.
